This tandem axle 2 ton trailer was manufactured during World War II in the USA by at least three different companies. It was very popular and saw service in a number of Theatres. It was stable and very capable of being towed at high speed. It was fitted out in a number of different ways. The M17 version had an M45 Maxon quadmount fitted to it. This consisted of four Browning M2 .50 caliber machine guns on a base that allowed for 360 degree rotation and full elevation. The gunner sat inside the mount behind a full sheet of body armor. The trailer could be set up on the four built in jacks that raised the trailer up off its wheels for stability. The trailer could be towed by any number of US Army trucks. | ||||||||||||||
